Amazon Kindle How-To Series - Email With Your Kindle
Minggu Nopember 28th 2010, 15:30

The Amazon Kindle is a great e-book reader and audio-book player. Wouldn’t it be great if you could use the built-in wireless service for other things like surfing the Internet or sending and receiving e-mail? Well, actually depending upon the e-mail service you use, you can!

Not surprisingly, we’ve found that the Amazon Kindle (both version 1 and 2) work great with Google’s Gmail. However, “right-out-of-the-box”, you will not be able to use Gmail unless you make a few modifications to your Kindle’s settings. If you do not do this, you will get an error message when trying to get into your Gmail account.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Get a GMail account if you do not have one already - very simple - visit Gmail.com and sign-up. Gmail offers a number of great features including over 7GB of storage space, IMAP support, and easy labeling of e-mail.

2. Turn on your Kindle and go to Menu > Experimental > Basic Web. This will open the Kindle’s Web Browser. Keep in mind that the Kindle browser (even on the new Kindle 2) is VERY basic.

3. When your Kindle browser has opened, go to Menu > Settings.

4. Navigate to the Menu item “Enable Javascript” - Gmail requires Javascript to work. If Javascript is not enabled then you will get an error message when trying to access your Gmail account.

5. Close the Settings window.

6. Go to Menu > Enter URL and then enter http://mail.google.com - this is important, if you use the Kindle’s default shortcut or bookmark for Google you will get the Google “PDA” or mobile edition. When you try to access Gmail from the Google mobile site it will prompt you to download an e-mail application. This application cannot be installed on your Kindle. Go direction to the gmail site.

7. Log into the Gmail site with your existing user name and password, or use the new one you created in Step #1. Click “Sign in”.

8. You should now be logged into Gmail and ready to read and send e-mail messages.

A few things to keep in-mind when using your Kindle for Gmail. First, don’t forget the “Next Page” and “Prev Page” buttons. You have to get-out of your computer mind and into your Kindle mind. Next, the screen quality is not exceptional because it is in gray scale vs. color. The Kindle 2’s screen is better than the Kindle 1, however you will not equal anywhere near the experience of using your computer for e-mail. Finally - you won’t be able to open attachments sent to your Gmail account, and you may not be able to see all of the images sent with your e-mails.

With all of this, it still is pretty neat that you can take advantage of the wireless “Whispernet” service to take care of some basic e-mail tasks while you are using your Kindle. Who knows? In the event that your computer crashes and you’re out on the road your Kindle might be just come in very handy!

Congratulations, now you know how-to use Gmail on your Amazon Kindle wireless reading device.

Kindle - The Best Electronic Reader?

When one mentions electronic book readers, Amazon Kindle immediately comes to mind. It is by far the best selling e-book reader, what few know is that there are many great alternatives to the Amazon Kindle. In this article, we will review the Sony Prs-505 and Irex Iliad, which are the greatest competitors for Amazon’s e-book reader.

Price - Among these three e-book readers, The Sony e-book reader, Prs-505 is has the cheapest price tag at close to $300 while the Irex Iliad is the most expensive at close to $700. The Amazon Kindle is priced at close to $400.

Screen Size - Although the sizes of these three e-book readers are about the same, the screen size are noticeably different. The Irex Iliad has the biggest screen size at 8.5″ whilst the Sony Prs-505’s is the smallest at just 6.9 inches. The Amazon Kindle has a screen size of 7.5 inches. I personally love a big screen and for all those who feel the same, the Irex Iliad is the way to go

Weight - The heaviest of all three e-book readers is the Irex Iliad, weight at 13.7 ounces. The Sony Prs-505 is the lightest at just 8.8 ounces.

Battery Life - When it comes to battery life, the Irex Iliad fared the worst with just 15 hours of continuous reading. The Sony e-book reader arguably has the longest battery life, where it can last up to 7500 page turns.

Design - I personally like the Sony Prs-505 e-book’s design the best. It has a sleek metallic casing that gives it a sleek and professional look. The Sony model comes in both black and silver. Both Amazon and Irex Iliad models have some plastic or synthetic rubber feel to it, which, in my opinion, makes them look like toys.

All in all for the average casual user, Sony Prs-505’s competitive pricing, sleek looks and portability, makes it the best pick among e-book readers. Amazon Kindle has a great selling point to as it is the only model among the three that has a free access to the Amazon.com bookstore. The Irex Iliad is the best pick for those who intend to get an e-book reader for professional use.

If you feel digital camera reviews are great way to find out what users are saying about a particular camera. The reviews help you do some comparisons between different models, so you can determine which one would be right for your needs. Although the reviews to get technical. You have to keep in mind that not every user understands the menu options and the camera itself. What you are looking for reviews of Fuji cameras you should look for ease-of-use, features, functions and picture quality. Some reviews might go into more details about design and noise level, but your main concern should be picture quality.

Fujifilm digital camera reviews range from good to excellent. It is unusual to find a Fuji camera review that is poor. For instance, the Fujifilm Finepix F40fd is highly rated for lowlight conditions and indoor shots. It is considered a point-and-shoot automatic camera. Because of the low light performance of this camera, it is great for indoor shots, but if you were looking for a camera for shooting outdoors and indoors, you would want to consider a different Fujifilm camera.

Having the ability to look at Fujifilm digital camera reviews allows you to compare cameras not only for prices, but also for the different uses. If you are looking for a camera shoots quality pictures indoors outdoors and in lowlight, you would look for a Fujifilm camera that has all these abilities. The reviews help you find the camera that can be used indoors, outdoors and in lowlight situations.

Not all cameras are created equal, and that is why the Fujifilm digital camera reviews are so helpful. The reviews also help you determine if the camera is user friendly or more perplexed to use. If you take the time to look at the reviews and ratings for all cameras and do some comparison, you will surely find yourself a great camera.

While Fujifilm is one of the best when it comes to high quality digital cameras, they’re certainly not the only game in town. There are equal and better cameras around, you just need to know where to look.

The New Kindle 2 Vs The Traditional Book - A Review
Kamis Nopember 12th 2009, 09:56
Diarsipkan di bawah: Kindle 2 Articles

As technology has continued to evolve over the years so has the everyday book. But how does one compare to the other?

Is the readability of the book compromised?

Readability is a big one because we all know that staring at a computer screen is very bad for your eyes and essentially the Kindle is a little computer screen. However, with the new technology that they use on the Kindle 2, it does not hurt your eyes. The Kindle 2’s page layout is the exact same as a regular book’s layout with one exception, you can make the print bigger or smaller with the push of a button.

Are you able to get lost in a Kindle 2 like you can with a regular book?

When I read a book I get completely engulfed in it. After the first few pages I don’t even realize that I’m turning pages or reading words. It is like a movie playing in my head. That feature alone is why I love reading so much. It offers the ability to relax and escape reality for a little while.

Amazingly, with the Kindle 2 I am able to get lost in the book, however, it takes me much longer to be immersed in the story and I don’t stay that way for as long. Some of that might simply be because reading a book and turning the pages is so automatic because that is how I’ve always read a book. Pushing a button is not a natural way to read but I’m sure that over time it will become so.

How does buying a book on Kindle 2 compare to buying a regular book?

When you decide you want a new book you have to get in the car, drive the store, find the book, go through the checkout, and drive back home. If you’re very lucky it will only take about 30 minutes but somehow I’m usually not that lucky and with kids, I normally only have a short amount of free time. In this regard I love the Kindle 2 because I can pick my book, pay for it, and have it downloaded in 60 seconds.

What about the price of the book? Is it about the same?

A new release hardback book will cost you about $20.00 and a paperback will cost around $7. A new release downloaded is $10.00. So if you read a lot of new releases it will be cheaper to buy the book on Kindle 2. However, if you decide you want to read a book all you need to do is go to the store and buy it but, if you want to download a book to the Kindle 2 you have to buy the Kindle 2 first and that’s going to run you around $400.00.

Is the Kindle 2 a new trend that is going to be popular for a while and then disappear?

The Kindle 2 will continue to get more popular and with over 250,000 books (and growing) to choose from, it’s safe to say that the Kindle 2 is not going to be going anywhere any time soon. To get the best deal on the new Kindle 2 click http://www.best-online-deals.net.
